Ten Tips for Coding Excel VBA Macros

Ten Tips for Coding Excel VBA Macros Ten rational proposals to cause coding To exceed expectations VBA quicker and simpler. These tips depend on Excel 2010 (however they work in about all adaptations) and many were roused by the OReilly book Excel 2010 - The Missing Manual by Matthew MacDonald. 1 - Always test your macros in an expendable test spreadsheet, typically a duplicate of one that its intended to work with. Fix doesnt work with macros, so in the event that you code a large scale that folds, shafts, and ravages your spreadsheet, youre outta karma except if you have followed this tip. 2 - Using easy route keys can be perilous in light of the fact that Excel doesn’t caution you on the off chance that you pick an alternate way key that Excel is as of now utilizing. On the off chance that this occurs, Excel utilizes the alternate way key for the large scale, not the implicit easy route key. Consider how shocked your supervisor will be the point at which he stacks your large scale and afterward Ctrl-C adds an irregular number to a large portion of the cells in his spreadsheet. Matthew MacDonald makes this recommendation in Excel 2010 - The Missing Manual. Here are some basic key blends that you ought to never dole out to full scale easy routes since individuals use them too much of the time: CtrlS (Save)CtrlP (Print)CtrlO (Open)CtrlN (New)CtrlX (Exit)CtrlZ (Undo)CtrlY (Redo/Repeat)CtrlC (Copy)CtrlX (Cut)CtrlV (Paste) To maintain a strategic distance from issues, consistently use CtrlShiftletter full scale key blends, in light of the fact that these mixes are considerably less normal than the Ctrlletter alternate route keys. Also, if you’re in question, don’t dole out an alternate route key when you make another, untested large scale. 3 - Cant recall Alt-F8 (the default large scale alternate way)? Do the names make no difference to you? Since Excel will make macros in any opened exercise manual accessible to each other exercise manual that’s presently open, the easy route is to construct your own full scale library with the entirety of your macros in a different exercise manual. Open that exercise manual alongside your different spreadsheets. As Matthew puts it, Imagine you’re altering an exercise manual named SalesReport.xlsx, and you open another exercise manual named MyMacroCollection.xlsm, which contains a couple of helpful macros. You can utilize the macros contained in MyMacroCollection.xlsm with SalesReport.xlsx easily. Matthew says this plan makes it simple to share and reuse macros across exercise manuals (and between various individuals). 4 - And consider adding catches to connection to the macros in the worksheet that contains your full scale library. You can mastermind the catches in any practical groupings that sound good to you and add text to the worksheet to clarify what they do. Youll never wonder what an obscurely named large scale really does again. 5 - Microsofts new full scale security design has been improved a great deal, yet its significantly progressively helpful to advise Excel to confide in the documents in specific organizers on your PC (or on different PCs). Pick a particular organizer on your hard drive as a confided in area. On the off chance that you open an exercise manual put away in this area, it’s consequently trusted. 6 - When youre coding a full scale, dont attempt to incorporate cell determination with the large scale. Rather, accept that the cells that the full scale will utilize have been pre-chosen. Its simple for you to drag the mouse over the cells to choose them. Coding a large scale that is adaptable enough to do something very similar is probably going to be brimming with bugs and difficult to program. In the event that you need to program anything, attempt to make sense of how to compose approval code to check whether a fitting choice has been made in the large scale. 7 - You may believe that Excel runs a large scale against the exercise manual that contains the full scale code, however this isn’t in every case valid. Exceed expectations runs the full scale in the dynamic exercise manual. That is the exercise manual that you took a gander at most as of late. As Matthew clarifies it, If you have two exercise manuals open and you utilize the Windows taskbar to change to the subsequent exercise manual, and afterward back to the Visual Basic editorial manager, Excel runs the large scale on the subsequent exercise manual. 8 - Matthew recommends that, For simpler full scale coding, attempt to organize your windows so you can see the Excel window and the Visual Basic editorial manager window simultaneously, one next to the other. Yet, Excel wont do it, (Arrange All on the View menu just orchestrates the Workbooks. Visual Basic is viewed as an alternate application window by Excel.) But Windows will. In Vista, close everything except the two you need to organize and right-click the Taskbar; select Show Windows Side by Side. In Windows 7, utilize the Snap highlight. (Quest online for Windows 7 highlights Snap for guidelines.) 9 - Matthews top tip: Many developers find long strolls on the sea shore or swallowing a container of Mountain Dew a supportive method to clear their heads. What's more, obviously, the mother of all VBA tips: 10 - The main thing to attempt when you cannot think about the announcements or catchphrases you need in your program code is to turn on the large scale recorder and do a lot of activities that appear to be comparable. At that point analyze the produced code. It wont consistently direct you toward the proper thing, yet it regularly does. At any rate, it will give you a spot to begin looking. Analysis of statement that “acquiring foreign companies creates shareholder wealth and helps reduce many risks” Essay

The above articulation talks about hazard decrease as an advantage of acquisitions.â I will part the announcement into two sections; one that examines the decrease of dangers through acquisitions, and the other which clarifies the formation of investor riches through acquisitions.â The initial segment of this announcement can be clarified through the different types of hazard that are diminished due to acquisitions.â One significant hazard that is decreased through acquisitions is the hazard from contenders, through procuring a reasonable market share.â It is hard for firms which contribute through greenfield methodologies to pull in customers from the current contenders. This is on the grounds that another firm needs to demonstrate its presentation to customers before it can effectively pull in customers from the present competitors.â This is a move that requires significant investment, since the customers need to break down the results of new firms before the firm can pick up the vital generosity to draw in new clients.â However, acquisitions empower firms to utilize the altruism of the firm that has been procured to hold the current customers or portion of the market.â The market relates the new firm, for this situation TPS Connection Plc, with the brand name of the firm that has been gained, and in the event that it had great generosity, the new firm will have less issues in holding the current customers, just as pulling in new customers from the contenders. A case of a firm that has experienced an effective obtaining process and delighted in this advantage is Tata Steel of India, which gained Corus of Netherlands.â Before doing what needs to be done, Tata Steel Company needed to experience a long and expensive procedure of offering, which was assessed to cost about $13.7 billion.â However, this procedure paid off after Tata steel profited by in addition to other things, the piece of the pie of Corus Company.â indeed, after the procurement, Tata steel moved from being the fifty-6th maker of steel universally, to the fifth position (ICFAI Center for Management Research 2007: 8). The second hazard that is decreased through acquisitions identifies with the appropriation channels.â another firm needs to make new dispersion channels that are powerful enough to increase a portion of the market.â This is trying since the current contenders as of now utilize the best dissemination channels available.â another firm faces the danger of decrease of deals because of mediocre conveyance channels.â However, acquisitions empower new firms to utilize the previously existing circulation channels of the firm that has been acquired.â This empowers the new firm, for this situation, TPS Connection Plc to infiltrate the market all the more effectively using the current conveyance channels of the firm that has been acquired.â The Tata Steel securing that has been talked about above profited Tata from Corus’ European dissemination channels, and this is among the variables that made it increase a huge portion of the market. The third hazard that can be scaled down through acquisitions identifies with the expenses of market research.â another organization needs to successfully contemplate the market it is infiltrating so it can have full data on the items to produce, the evaluating framework, methods of promoting among different characteristics of the market.â This is a costly procedure, and if not done proficiently, it may prompt the failure of another firm to enter the current market. Because of the high idea of the costs, this may be restraining to firms which don't have the fundamental assets and technology.â However, in instances of acquisitions, for example by TPS Connection Plc, the organization that is being gained as of now has significant data available division and trends.â It along these lines turns out to be generally simpler for TPS organization to enter the market utilizing the accessible data from the procured company.â It is essential to take note of that in any case, TPS needs to do look into all alone, yet this will be less troublesome and will devour lesser assets when contrasted with a situation where it was executing a greenfield speculation.  Another chance that is diminished is the precise hazard that may happen in specific pieces of the world, or certain markets.â For example, there is at present clash that is going on among Palestine and Israel.â The biggest brunt of the war is felt by Palestine, and it very well may be said that organizations in this nation are confronting an efficient risk.â Firms in this nation with premiums in remote nations can be said to have decreased their hazard through diversification.â They can depend on the benefits from the outside firms in a period like this, when their benefits are inclined to decreasing.â This is one hazard that an obtaining lessens, and TPS Connection Plc should utilize a securing as a type of entering the Chinese and Indian markets so as to diminish the deliberate hazard through expansion. Production of riches through acquisitions. There are a few organizations that have embraced acquisitions which have demonstrated to decrease chances and improve the abundance of shareholders.â Hindalco is one such organization, and it gained Novelis Inc, which is an organization that manages aluminum and is situated in Canada.â Since the two organizations had a huge market nearness, the mix of assets, dissemination channels, altruism and piece of the pie guaranteed that Hindalco fabricated a solid market presence.â This nearness is felt in practically all landmasses of the world. Formation of investor riches is accomplished through the accompanying advantages of acquisitions.â The principal advantage is more prominent worth age, and this implies an organization that attempts an obtaining or merger is probably going to accomplish higher incentive when contrasted with both individual firms.â This is clarified by the way that an organization that embraces a procurement is bound to create a higher investor esteem that is a lot bigger than the all out number of portions of the individual organizations. Another advantage that emerges from acquisitions and which is probably going to expand the abundance of investors is the additions in showcase share.â This advantage can be all around delineated when a firm is confronting difficulties in the market.â In such a situation, a procurement particularly by another firm which has a solid nearness in the market, is probably going to make the more fragile firm experience more prominent degrees of cost productivity and competitiveness.â For this situation, there are two recipients to the obtaining; the frail organization profits by disposal of its market issues, while the joint organization profits by a bigger portion of the market. A third advantage of a securing which is predictable with the riches creation objective of an organization is the cost effectiveness gain.â This advantage is acknowledged through economies of scale benefits that are acknowledged from acquisitions and mergers.â Such advantages incorporate simplicity of raising capital, sharing of assets by the two firms, progression of limits from mass buys among other benefits.â Other advantages remember increment for creation because of the obtaining, which at that point prompts the decrease of the creation expenses of individual units.â Increase in productivity can likewise be accomplished through sharing of technology.â In the Hindalco procurement, this firm increased valuable innovation from Novelis Inc., which a few specialists gauge would have taken 10 years to create. The fourth advantage that can be credited to the acquisitions and mergers is the decrease in the organization costs.â This happens because of the sharing of built up assets between the two firms.â For example, when a firm enters another market through a procurement, it doesn't spend a lot of assets setting up the various divisions that are required for operations.â Instead, a firm will utilize the current branches of the new firm that is being obtained. A fifth advantage of a securing which TPS Connection Plc would appreciate is the expansion in worldwide presence.â When this firm gets an organization which has a solid brand name, its essence will be felt in the market, which would draw in more customers to the company.â When Hindalco, an India based organization procured Novelis, a huge Canada based aluminum organization, this expanded the worldwide nearness of the previous (ICFAI Center for Management Research 2007: 6).â This was accomplished through consolidating the qualities of the two organizations and their dissemination arrange, subsequently guaranteeing that it had a nearness in practically all landmasses of the world.â All these advantages either help to build income or decline costs, which is steady with the objective of an organization of expanding the abundance of the investors. Appraisal of the choice to contribute utilizing FDI. The choice to put resources into these nations utilizing FDI is a result of the advantages that are available in this type of investment.â This choice emerges out of numerous components that are available in the nations where these organizations look to invest.â For example, when TPS Connections Plc is surveying the sort of speculation to embrace while entering the Chinese and Indian markets, it will be guided by some factors.â Some of these variables incorporate the macroeconomic states of these business sectors, for example, the advantages that outside speculators gain.â Other elements incorporate the idea of the opposition and the accessible types of financing.â However, in totality, a portion of the primary factors that make FDI a great type of venture are examined underneath; The primary explanation begins from the way that country states for the most part support FDI in their countries.â This is because of a few advantages that such states receive from the FDI. One reward remembers the expansion for income for the host country.â In any nation, financial development is expanded through investments.â This builds the buying intensity of inhabitants of the nation because of the expansion of earnings inferable from monetary growth.â The increment in buying power prompts the expansion popular for servi

Managing a Full Plate

Managing a Full Plate Transitioning from first to second semester has actually been pretty refreshing in these last few weeks. In my last post, I uploaded a picture of my schedule. Compared to first semester, I now have more classes, more homework, and more responsibilities. Although the amount of time I spend on school has definitely increased, I could not be happier with how life is going in these first few weeks. Today was my first midterm of second semester in differential equations. I walked out of the exam room confident and ready for my chemistry midterm this Wednesday. Other than classes being in full swing with psets and midterms starting up, I also started my job at TSR^2 (Talented Scholars Resource Room.) I mentioned this at the end of my last post that I had gotten the job, but I am now through the training and have completed two one-on-one tutoring appointments now. I am a teaching assistant/resource for students in 8.02 (Electricity Magnetism), that I just took last semester, so it is all fresh in my mind. I don’t think I’ll ever escape drawing at least one Gaussian surface a week! Academically, it was the best part of my week. It felt great to be back helping people in a subject that I love and am passionate about, and it reminded me of the times in high school when I would stay after school ranting to two or three students about why physics is great. With this new job and new schedule, time has become a more limited resource. I should say I don’t think it is a bad thing. Last semester, I spent a decent amount of time not efficiently. This semester has made me formulate a more effective approach to psetting and managing time outside of lectures and recitations. Last semester, I ended up spending way too much time trying to finish problem sets before we even learned the material for the course. I ended up taking twice as much time solving problems because I would spend half the time teaching myself the material and the other half solving the problem. Then, later that week, I’d find myself in the classroom hearing the same stuff I had already went over prior. This semester, I have eliminated that. Although sometimes I feel like, “AHH there is still half the pset to do and only two days until it is due!” (Literally me with Real Analysis as we speak) I end up learning the material in lecture in that timespan and then can knock out the problems in no time. I now spend about half the time psettting that I did last semester, but I feel that I am learning the material a lot more in depth and in a more effective method that allows for my limited time to be used elsewhere or reaffirming my understanding for other concepts that were a;ready taught. I’ve also started headed to office hours for both Physics and Real Analysis as the psets for these two classes in particular tend to be shorter but with more mentally challenging problems to complete. It really has helped me a lot for Real Analysis since I have never written proofs formally before this class, so it is a whole new methodology to try and master this semester. Who knew that proving such trivial things would be such a hassle! Other than the fact that my plates full of three jobs and five classes, my plate is also full with food, hence the title of this blog post! With my weeks jam packed, I tend to really enjoy the weekends. Luckily, I have a girlfriend who loves eating food as much as I do, and we have made it a tradition at this point to try new places for dinner every friday night and breakfast/brunch (normally it ends up being brunch cause sleep is not for the weak, it is for those who just made it through five days of academic hell) on Saturday morning. It is extremely rewarding and like a destressing process after the week to just have that time to relax and indulge in delivered chinese food and Black Mirror at Next House, or mixing it up and eating out at a nice Italian restaurant in the North End. It makes me appreciate these moments more knowing all the work that was done throughout the week. In the last month, I have gotten some amazing pancakes from The Paramount, an egg sandwich from Mike and Pattys, and some egg burrito thing this week from a place a few subway stops north. I mean look at some of this food! Credits to Chloe for these pictures because my phone’s camera is the epitome of android quality, and she takes much artsy-er photos. This semester has really brought a good balance to my life when I think about it. Although I am almost in a constant state of doing something, everything I am doing is something I am passionate about and actually want to be doing. I feel like I am wasting barely any time. Working my butt off through the weekdays makes the weekends of lounging around on Friday and Saturday, exploring new places for food, and picking out fruit at Haymarket just that much more enjoyable. I am really enjoying not only what I am learning but life in general this semester, and I can fully say I am satisfied where I am here both mentally and physically. A Report On The Mosque - 1474 Words

ZERODERICK WILLIAMS KEVIN MORGAN HUMANITIES EAST-WEST FINAL ESSAY RESPONSES A The most recent mosque created by the ottomans was the Yildiz Mosque located in the neighborhood of BeÅŸiktaÅŸ district in Istanbul, Turkey, on the way to YÄ ±ldÄ ±z Palace. The mosque was commissioned by Abdul Hamid II, and constructed around 1884 and 1886. In comparison the hypo mosque relatively small dome also appears over the area in front of the mihrab. The arch in Umayyad architecture is primarily round in shape, although the pointed arch, which becomes predominant in later periods, makes a limited appearance (The Umayyads). The earliest known writing in the Mayan script dates from about 250 BC, but the script is thought to have developed at an earlier date. The writings of the alphabet were symbols or pictures. The symbols are called logograms which are divided in about 550 parts. The second part that makes up is called syllabograms, and about 300 glyphs were commonly used. The Mayan Civilization occupied the eastern third of Mesoamerica. The top lands were near vo lcanos and the lowlands were made of limestone located in the central and northern regions (Maya Civilization). The Mayans had an elaborate calendrical system, no longer in use, which obviously evolved in complete isolation from those of the old world. This system ended with the fall of the Mayan civilization. The Contributions of Nicolo Machiavelli and John Locke to...

The Contributions of Nicolo Machiavelli and John Locke to Political Thought In political thought, there have been many people that have progressed political theory. Nicolo Machiavelli and John Locke are two of those famous individuals. The research here will be focused on them. Each Machiavelli and John Locke support a different political theory. At first, the background and relevant contexts will be discussed. Each person has written something that has influenced modern political thought. Nicolo Machiavelli’s The Prince and John Locke’s Second Treatise of Government. Liberalism contained in Locke’s work will be explored in addition to the realism contained in The Prince. These two writings were chosen†¦show more content†¦Machiavelli stated that if the actions of the state it is justifiable if it benefits the state’s self-interest or survival (Machiavelli, 1532). Machiavelli writings on the Prince dealt with polit ical reality, and Machiavelli stressed living in political realities as opposed to idealism . Machiavelli’s views have influenced what is called classical realism and even the political landscape of the late 1800s (Thayer, 1892). The ideology presented in The Prince still continues to influence modern political thought, especially realism. Machiavelli’s ideology is an opponent to Locke’s Second Treatise in which some principles of liberalism are found. John Locke was from England, and is one of the most famous enlightened thinkers from the 17th century. John Locke in addition to being a famous philosopher was also an accomplished physician. He was born in 1632 and died 1702. Locke advocated for the separation of church and state, being one of the first advocates of secularism (Milton, 2008). His work, The Second Treatise of Civil Government, even influenced the founders of the United States almost a century later, and even includes direct influence in the drafting of The Declaration of Independence (Milton, 2008). In his most famous work, Locke also advocates for the right to personal private property. Attitudes Towards Test Tube Babies Free Essays

Attitudes towards Test Tube Babies [pic] Name of Student: Yuhan Huang (Sheley) AE teacher: Michelle Crockford AE Class: February 4 Abstract The objective of this report is to present the attitudes and ideas shared by International Education Services Limited (IES) students and students from the university of Queensland (UQ) in relation to their knowledge and personal opinions concerning Invitro fertilization The survey used data collected from male and female students between the ages of 15 and 30 living in the State of Queensland. The participants were given 20 questions to answer in privacy and without any degree of pressure. The questions related to their personal details and to the IVF program in particular. We will write a custom essay sample on Attitudes Towards Test Tube Babies or any similar topic only for you Order Now The aim of the investigation was to gather an overall point of view as to whether IVF was indeed seen as an accepted type of program among this age group. In conclusion it is reasonable to think that another survey with an older more experienced age group would more likely give a variation in results. Because this selected age group were students, their knowledge and experience directly with IVF was limited. However, it is important to recoginse the opinions of youth as they are the future generation of adults. Introduction In recent years, babies conceived through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) have been a topic of moral discussion around the world. This form of reproduction is not considered a natural and acceptable way of giving birth in some people’s eyes. Many infertile couples in particular, rely on this new technology since it allows them the choice of having their baby using this method. In-vitro fertilization is defined by, â€Å"a process by which egg cells are fertilised by sperm outside the womb (Papanikolaou et al. 006)†. The definition of a test tube baby is one which is the result of a female ovary or egg having been fertilised with a male sperm inside a test tube, the resulting impregnated egg is implanted in the uterus of a female, growing into a foetus and developing baby by the time of birth. (Muffin, 2007). According to Walsh (2008), three million test tub e babies have been born throughout the world in this way so far, and this number continues to increase at a rate of eleven thousand each year. In 1978, the world’s first successful â€Å"test-tube† baby, Louise Brown, was born in Great Britain. The baby girl weighed five-pound 12- ounces and was delivered early via Caesarean section. The process had been a success; this process proved Dr. Steptoe and Dr. Edwards had accomplished the first of many test tube babies (Rosenberg, 1970). In Australia, the first test tube baby, Candice Elizabeth Reed, was born in 1980 (Screen Australia, 1982). Infertility afflicts thousand’s of married couples feeling frustration at being childless. In India, there is an infertility clinic which provides moral, emotional and the most advanced technical support for couples wishing to solve their fertility issues. However, the religion of Islam is totally against IVF and has been banned by the by Islamic Fiqh Council (1986). In addition, they thought that in-vitro fertilization was unlawful because it could result in confusion with regard to parentage (Islamic Perspective, 2007). Prior to the birth of the first test tube babies such as Louise Brown, people worldwide were hesitant to use this method thinking that there could be risks involved. However, in time the health and well being of those babies born through IVF programs have proven to the world that this method is indeed safe. Hence the fears have almost disappeared. However, many people still have many misconceptions about a test tube baby and some countries do not allow the manufacturing of test tube babies. If a baby can be created in a test tube, then infertile couples stand a better chance of having a family then by other means. The aim of this report is to examine the attitudes of people towards the adoption of in vitro-fertilization. This paper will first discus the methodology and select the survey question from this research, then a summary of the questionnaire results will be introduced,   followed by a discussion, conclusion and recommendations. Method In this report, quantitative methodology was chosen for this research. Because of the complexities associated with unstructured interview technique and time constraints. A questionnaire was designed to examine the different opinions of International Education Services Limited (IES) and University of Queensland (UQ) students attitude towards the adoption of in vitro-fertilization (refer Appendix A). The main types of questions asked included; those about personal details and personal experiences together with questions on people’s points of view about in–vitro fertilization. There were 30 students who were all volunteers. 10 out of participants were male and 20 of them were female. The students were chosen randomly from state library and UQ library all full time students between the ages of 15 to 30. Religion, political affiliation and socio-economic status were considered unimportant. Confidentiality was ensured by not recording names. Questionnaires were completed by students and the data was then collated and analysed. The questionnaire was limited by the fact that many of the participants were too young to have had any real personal experience in dealing with IVF, however some were able to relate to friends or family who had used the IVF program successfully. Some of the participants only vaguely knew any of factual or historical knowledge about IVF. The interest that the questionnaire generated among participants and their honest and forthright answers proved to be a bonus as far as the questionnaire was concerned. Interpretation of Results Questions 1 and 2 were basic and asked about personal knowledge of in vitro-fertilization (IVF) and test-tube babies. The participants generally have heard about IVF. There are about 83. 3% students know about this topic as can be seen in the results, the ridiculous thing is that there are five students who have never heard of IVF, but one of them knew the process involved in making a test-tube baby. Questions 3 to 13 were probing and in-depth in order to obtain the participant’s sincere and knowledgeable reaction to each question. It was rewarding to see that so many agreed with the IVF program and its aims and benefits. In addition, a high percentage of participants were neutral about many of these questions. This could have meant that they really didn’t know a great deal about IVF or weren’t sure of the answer. Questions 14 through to 19 extended the questioning into the sphere of Government funding. Here 70% of males and 80% of females believed that the Government should provide funding for the IVF program. 6 months to 1 year in Question 18 seems a short time time for most to choose, however this would reflect the experience of the participants. The respondents were generally concerned about this topical issue and its bearing on modern society. They all saw the positive outcome where couples could become happy and have a baby of their own. They concerned themselves with the possibility of defective babies being born. Their eagerness to be involved in the questionnaire showed the openness which they had in being part of the solution to any problem involving IVF. Because their was no influence give by other parties to participants in answering the 20 questions, it can be said that this was a survey with genuine results. Notwithstanding that there were factors which did not fit in exactly with the aim of the survey, such as the young age of some participants along with people having limited knowledge there was sufficient suitable data collected to give a commendable result. The language used in the questionnaire was understood by all participants. Key words such as: in-vitro fertilization, partially, afflicts, infertile, federal funding, prohibitive, DNA did not require any explanation, however some Asian students did request help in sentence meanings. Most people showed a basic understanding on what IVF was meant to do; that is to enable pregnancy to take place, surprisingly in the same question, number 16 very few saw any real concern for safety, acknowledging the medical competency that exist with this program. Recommendation As the findings have indicated, most people were concerned with couples having the need to have a baby if they so desired. It would therefore be in the interest of the â€Å"powers to be,† that Government and medical bodies proceed vigorously with greater implementation and assistance for the IVF program. Question 17 showed that most participants saw two important concerns; that of costing, and concern for babies having defects. Both government and medical procedures can overcome these potential barriers with more funding and improved research respectively. It is interesting to note that in question 13, 30% of females strongly disagreed with the concept of the IVF program producing babies as if they were some kind of commodity or product. No males registered any comment. It appears from this statistic that there is no need to educate people further on this ethical side of any argument brought forward. It can be deduced that the data obtained will in some way enlighten readers of this survey, thus strengthening the argument for a continued IVF program existing in the forefront of society for years to come. . The implications of these results are that more research needs to be carried out to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how other age groups see the IVF program. There could also be surveys done involving those of mixed ethnic backgrounds as well as those of different religions and those with ethical and moral demands. Such surveys would need to address a different kind of questioning but it would still be a recommended that can be made here. Researches in the field of Social Science would definitely find this convincing survey beneficial in exploring the human condition surrounding the human condition, be it only for the point of view of 30 young people. Consultation with Hostile Corporations -Case free essay sample

Lily’s Consultation with Hostile Corporations Summary Lily Advisors, a consulting firm based in Maryland, Washington DC, working with multi-disciplined teams for discrete projects, had a consulting agreement with Green Acres School System in Northern Virginia to resolve some issues arising from the construction of two new high schools. Unseasonable rains, contractor delays, weather issues, disagreements between architects and the school board were some factors contributing to the delays. With his extensive roles and experience, the school board hired Merv, President of Lily’s Advisors, to advise them about how to proceed under their tense circumstances Merv investigated the situation and submitted a confidential document, on the First High School this was in February 1999. The performances to date of Meyerhoff, the main contractor and Stewart and Sons, the architectural firm, were critically evaluated. The major findings were that Stewart and Sons failed to control the scheduling properly and that it was making an unusually large profit for its administrative function. We will write a custom essay sample on Consultation with Hostile Corporations -Case or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Merv was familiar with Stewart Sons and was able to write about their methods of execution. The school board asked Stewart and Sons to renegotiate because of the findings of the report, but gave them the impression that it was based on the construction delays. The content of the report remained undisclosed. After two months of very difficult negotiation, all groups signed an amended contract on June 30, 1999. All major issues were settled and they were able to proceed to the construction of the second high school. The new amended contract had further delays as the groups found that the excessive compromising that was done was becoming irksome. The school board had thought Stewart and Sons was very uncompromising and aggressive. Disagreements continued between the school board and the construction and architectural firms during the next eight months. At this point, Stewart and Sons decided to hire Lily as a consultant. Stewart had worked with Lily before. They met and Merv disclosed that he had submitted an evaluation of the contract to the school board in a document, after making a proposal on September 24, 2000. The negative aspects of the report were never revealed. Sam Shapiro, the architect’s lawyer, contacted Merv about the document submitted and the potential conflict of interest which could arise but Merv denied any conflict of interest. Shapiro and the representatives from Stewart gave Merv a contract to sign for his services on November 8, 2000. The situation further deteriorated during the next 4 months and the school board sued Stewart and Sons. The lawyers representing Stewart and Sons saw the confidential document, as was required by the law. This outraged Stewart and Sons as they viewed the document as impugning the company’s integrity and honesty. Stewart and Sons viewed it as a case of conflict of interest and not one with just the potential. Merv believed otherwise. He explained that he recognized a potential conflict of interest and devised measures to prevent it. Merv was convinced of his flawless strategy and believed he had insulated the teams sufficiently to avoid this and, in any case, the construction of the second school was a new project. Stewart and Sons informed him that they would not pay the $102,500 that was due on the contract. After contemplating the amount of money to be spent on the case, he decided to proceed to prove otherwise.

Womens Lib Essays - Lecturers, American Quakers,

Womens Lib Throughout the years, women have been seen as someone to have children, someone to cook, someone to clean, and someone who does not deserve rights. Because two women, Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, fought for equal rights, women today have an equality that was once thought impossible. They began by educating women on the rights they should have, then forming the National Woman's Suffrage Association, and finally, together, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony would change the way that the United States viewed women, they would give them the right to vote. Elizabeth Cady Stanton started the fight for women's rights at a convention in Seneca Falls, New York 1848. She spoke out on the so-called equal rights that women had, saying ?It is the duty of the women of this country to secure to themselves their sacred right to the elective franchise.? With that great statement Elizabeth Cady Stanton showed that women do have an opinion and they want to voice it. As her speech progressed she spoke about the ?inalienable rights? that the constitution granted to all Americans; and how these rights were not given equally to women. Her radical new ideas sparked a controversial battle that would last well into the next century. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the first women to wear bloomers and not a dress around her town and home, causing her husband (a judge) much ridicule and embarrassment. In 1851 at another convention in Seneca Falls, she met Susan B. Anthony, a woman as passionate about the fight for women to vote as she was; oddly enough, they met while Stanton was wearing bloomers. The women immediately became friends, and started full force to gain equal rights for women. Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote most of the speeches delivered by Susan B. Anthony. Elizabeth Cady Stanton became the woman behind the scenes, and as the years progressed so did their fight. Susan B. Anthony helped start the movement for women's rights in 1851 when she met Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Between the two of them, these women started in New York and slowly worked across the country educating women on what rights they should have and why they did not have them. The two were strongly fighting for a woman's right to vote. At the time the only people allowed to vote were white males over the age of 21, no slaves, no colored people, and no women. From 1854 to 1860 Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton worked in New York to change all laws discriminating against women. Anthony began organizing women all over the state to help with this fight. In 1869 Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton Lucy Stone and Henry Beecher joined forces to organize the National Woman Suffrage Association. This group would work to get a constitutional amendment that would grant women the right to vote (the idea was sparked by the 15th amendment which stated that the newly freed slaves had the right to vote). To make their statement more dramatic Susan B. Anthony and 12 other women cast their votes in the 1872 presidential election. These votes were one of many dramatic steps in gaining voting rights for women. Anthony was arrested, convicted, fined $100, and then set free for this, she soon became an icon in history. In 1920 the fight for a women's right to vote was soon over as the 19th amendment to the constitution was passed allowing this right. The fight that Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony had so nobly battled ended in victory. This also allowed women to become more outgoing and true to their own beliefs. This was just the beginning in the battle for women to become men's equals. Not only did these two wonderful women help to gain other women the right to vote, it gave strength to the many other minorities to fight for equality. Social Issues Essays

Cofer And Staples Essay Example

Cofer And Staples Essay Example Cofer And Staples Essay Cofer And Staples Essay Also their lack Of English they had and the differences between her race and the American race. Both of the writers are informing readers of how deeply Puerco Ricans and blacks are stereotyped. Moreover of how their race is being judged and discriminated against just from what they see and hear. First of all Staples explains how white women and other people view him by the color of his skin and appearance. In the essay he states a white woman is walking a distance from him but she gives off a negative vibe by glancing behind her. She avoids eye contact from him and made her think he is up to no good. However Staples stated he is A softy who is scarcely able to take a knife to a raw chicken. This demonstrated to him that she was judging him by the color of his skin, black a dark color used to depict African Americans. It showed Staples that white women would depict him as dangerous. It also showed him that people stereotyped African Americans as the people who are up to no good. In another subject Coffers essay also had the same conflicts dealing with race, stereotype, and ethnicity. It conveyed how Puerco Rican women were viewed and misunderstood as well as being labeled by people outside her race. In the essay she also talked about wanting to fit in but she could not because of her tradition and culture. The differences between what she had to wear and what American people wore was stereotyped as well. This is because American people dressed up modernly and dull but Puerco Rican girls stood out too much. The way they dressed was too flashy and too vibrant. Coffer also conveyed how Puerco Rican women were portrayed by movies Americans would watch. She explains that Americans would just take what they see from a movie and assume that Puerco Rican people are exactly how they are seen in movies. When they do not know exactly nothing about Puerco Rican people. Another thing she pointed out was how Americans assumed that Puerco Rican people were uneducated and had a lack of English speaking. Although Coffer wanted to imply that even though she had a hard time growing up she still succeeded her goals. However Americans are just used to judging new people and new things as either dumb or too flashy or worse. One idea about racial and ethnic stereotype that is important is that Americans have their ways of judging as well as other types of cultures and race doing the same. Although ACH race and ethnicity is equally the same just they are viewed differently. The Puerco Rican women are viewed as uneducated and do not exactly know how to dress well. However they can do just the same as any other person from any race. They can succeed in what they want to pursue without taking harsh judgments and not caring about others views on themselves. They can fit in if they wanted to by telling people outside of their culture and race what type of person they are. Furthermore Staples is viewed as dangerous because of his skin color. However he implies that people are just judging him and believing what they hear and see. Making that one race or culture look bad even though people do not know anything about them. Another important thing is that both writers are trying to ideally show that people tend to stereotype any race and any ethnicity that is out there. They talk of how they look, their education, and two big ones are the skin color and the way their English is. In Staples essay he evidently shows how white women specifically view him. One where he Was just walking behind the woman and she grew suspicious of him and had the thought of him being up to no good. It demonstrated the way white women judged black men. He also implied how people would just judge a person by the skin color assuming that, is the way the person is without even knowing anything about the person. Staples also stated how his presence on another effected the way people viewed him. Also how the reaction of others affected him also in return. As for Coffer she used evidence that stereotyped her appearance and her education. She implied that all Puerco Rican women were stereotyped by the way the dress and the way they spoke English. It had an effect on her that she could not fit in with the community. All in all both writers had the same conflicts that they held to heart. It affected them in many ways. They were being judged either by their appearance or the color of their skin. As well as the way they spoke English or even their education. They are alike because both felt that they wanted to fit into the community. Coffer and Staples experienced the judgments of others on themselves and it affected them in the same way too. They both were a race where people on the society would judge harshly. Staples was judged based on his looks as well and Coffer had the same thing affecting her. However they both implied that the judgments made on them provoked them to succeed either way. They both conveyed that even though they had it cough they still succeeded and they did not let the views of others affect them so harshly.

ARE POLICE ABOVE THE LAW Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

ARE POLICE ABOVE THE LAW - Essay Example However, at the same time police are in the best position to be tempted by corruption, kickbacks, dealing in contraband, and covering up excessive force. While violating the law is not the norm for the vast majority of good officers that play by the rules, for those that don't the system and organization places them above the law. Police officers are in a position to abuse the law and will naturally take advantage of their position when the opportunity arises, and are in fact encouraged by the system to do so. According to Johnson and Cox, "Police officers are exposed to an extraordinary level of temptation in such areas as drug investigations" (70). As with any cross section of Americans, some people will be more prone to violate social values when there is an opportunity for economic gain. This factor is exacerbated by the fact that "little or no discipline is imposed when police officers witness fellow officers engaging in misconduct. As a result, public safety officers believe that it is acceptable to break the law or the rules of the department" (70). In many routine instances police officers, and the department, places their actions above the law. The police department not only provides the opportunity fo... Police are conditioned to form an unbreakable bond with their peers. As part of their training, "Police rookies are given the impression that they are under attack by the public and can only rely on one another" (Terrance and Cox 73). This carries over through generations and pervades the entire department. According to Terrance and Cox, "The problem is not a "few bad apples," but an organizational climate that molds new officers into thinking and doing as the organization wishes" (74). If the officer was honest when he or she entered the academy, by the time they hit the street they will encouraged to turn a blind eye to corruption and abuse. Incidents involving police misbehavior confirms the theory that when police are given a considerable opportunity to break the law they will take advantage of a system that will refuse to report or punish them. In 1998, Human Rights Watch reported that police brutality was a persistent problem in US law enforcement. They cited cases of "unjustified shootings, severe beatings, fatal chokings, and unnecessarily rough treatment" and while they represented a minority of the total officers they found that "law enforcement supervisors, as well as local and federal government leadership-often fail to act decisively to restrain or penalize such acts" (Police Brutality). Police officers that operate outside and above the law have become a growing national problem. Critics will argue that the public exposes the police to too much scrutiny and places unreasonable expectations on the officers. They will say that officers are often in life and death situations that call for immediate reactions and split second decisions. The heat of the moment can cause an officer to over-react, but should be considered

Supreme Court Justices (Government 2) Research Paper

Supreme Court Justices (Government 2) - Research Paper Example Both men are on the conservative wing of the court and have held their position there for many years. Both are remarkably intelligent men who have also been lightning rods for political controversy. Antonin Scalia is a Reagan appointee and has sat on the Court since 1986 and is the senior associate judge. He still has many years of service left. He is known for his sarcastic wit and sharp tongue, as well as for his hard-headedness. He is known for his dissenting opinions. A dissenting opinion disagrees with the majority opinion and is issued separately, often attacking the reasoning of the judges who sided with the majority. As one critic observes: His writing style is best described as equal parts anger, confidence, and pageantry. Scalia has a taste for garish analogies and offbeat allusions—often very funny ones—and he speaks in no uncertain terms. He is highly accessible and tries not to get bogged down in abstruse legal jargon. But most of all, Scalia's opinions rea d like they're about to catch fire for pure outrage. He does not, in short, write like a happy man (Clarke). Nevertheless, Scalia knows what he believes. In the end, he is not interested in the government forcing people to act in certain ways. Although he is a pro-life Catholic, in 1992 in a case about funding for Planned Parenthood, Scalia has this to say about the legality of abortion: â€Å"The States may, if they wish, permit abortion on demand, but the Constitution does not require them to do so. The permissibility of abortion, and the limitations upon it, are to be resolved like most important questions in our democracy: by citizens trying to persuade one another and then voting.† Another famous ruling by Scalia came in Grutter v. Bollinger in 2003. This was a case about affirmative action. The court ruled that the University of Michigan should permit affirmative action in order to create a more diverse, harmonious school. Scalia, in a dissent, said he found this ridicu lous. These were ideals that the government should not legislate but are taught by general practice. Respect for others was something that â€Å"is a lesson of life rather than law—essentially the same lesson taught to (or rather learned by, for it cannot be 'taught' in the usual sense) people three feet shorter and twenty years younger than the full-grown adults at the University of Michigan Law School, in institutions ranging from Boy Scout troops to public-school kindergartens.† Both of these cases show that Scalia is a man of principle. He is not willing to sell his ideals down the river. He understands that even thought the constitution may be a document written many years ago, a living tree is just as likely to rot as it is to grow. Clarence Thomas was appointed by President George H.W. Bush. He has many years of service ahead of him. He is originally from a poor family in Georgia. He is only the second African-American to sit on the Supreme Court, after Thurgood Marshall. He is known for his quiet and serious demeanour on the bench. The issue of his appointment was one of the most scrutinized and divisive issues in politics in America in the 1990s. During his confirmation hearings in the Senate, a woman named Anita Hill came forward to say she has been sexually harassed by Thomas. Thomas denied this. Thomas' response to the allegations was truly memorable. Faced with a huge circus around unproven allegations, he told the Senate, â€Å"This is not an opportunity to talk about difficult matters privately or in a closed

Self-handicapping Behavior with Decker and Mitchells Theory

Self-handicapping Behavior with Decker and Mitchells Theory Introduction As a part of initial few assignments, I took the series of self- handicapping survey suggested and designed by Prof. Phillip Decker and Prof. Jordan Mitchell to determine the self-handicapping behavior during general work situation, people management, and leadership role, and identified the traits and knowledge that I need to acquire, learn and practice to be a good team member and leader. But after reading through specific chapters based on identifying self-handicapping situation and behaviors relating to key managerial and leadership role such as accountability, tunnel vision, engagement, analysis and decision making; I have identified many more areas in my professional and personal life which I was practicing and was holding myself back, making excuses and creating obstacles for myself, about which I wasnt aware of. Some causes for handicapping are similar to the earlier findings of self assessment exercise like poor listening habit and low self esteem, and some of them I wasnt aw are of. I consider this as an opportunity or blessing in disguise, being an international student and moreover for a person planning a career shift, assessing my strengths and weakness, determining the behavioral aspects and personal approach techniques that handicap my progress honestly, at this point of time is very pivotal. Today as well, I find myself looking for excuses to this mentioned shift when I dont understand anything or I am unable to achieve the desired results and moreover create hurdles for myself which really affects my learning process adversely. So, during the course of this report I will be discussing my experiences and behaviors that I now recognize as self-handicapping my professional development and learning path with respect to most relevant and related key managerial areas; accountability, tunnel vision, engagement, analysis and decision making; devising a firm action plan to slowly and gradually incorporate a small, positive and permanent behavioral change in profes sional and personal lifestyle. Reading through the four book chapters, I took the brief self-assessment survey in the self-handicapping book by Dr. Phillip Decker and Dr. Jordan Mitchell to identify key management and leadership areas out of the four that I really need to focus on to bring around positive change in personal and professional approach following the recommendations and baby steps mentioned in the book. My Score Accountability 11 Tunnel Vision 15 Engagement 8 Analysis and Decision Making 7 Accountability At the start of the career, I was more focused on taking care of my responsibility and wasnt concerns about the accountability part or maybe at that time I didnt know the difference between being responsible and accountable in the true sense. It took me some time to learn the meaning of accountability through a fair share of good and bad experiences and bit of mentoring, now I understand that personal accountability is about understanding and accepting the task, taking actions to achieve agreed-upon results, answering and taking ownership of the results obtained, regardless of the outcome. In the book The Oz Principle: Getting Results Through Individual And Organizational Accountability authors Roger Connors and Tom Smith defined personal accountability as, making a personal choice to rise above ones circumstances and demonstrate the ownership necessary for achieving desired results; to see it, own it, solve it and do it. Based on the what they have mentioned and experienced, I infer that accountability is something you choose to demonstrate, it is not something that is consigned to you. Going through the chapter and relating to my professional experiences and management roles, I realized that I have been self-handicapping myself by not prioritize tasks based on the importance, avoiding accountability and in confronting peers, boss and customers at times, and most importantly due to lack of self esteem not taking difficult tasks and assignments which really dented my career progression and learning curve. In a group task or in a leadership role, I observe that at times I procrastinate and put stress on myself, teammates and subordinate. Also lacking to define the roles and task boundaries which tend to overlap and create confusions; moreover most of the times I find myself doing most of the correction works for my subordinates rather than managing resources which in the end, puts more pressure on me playing as the person who is responsible and accountable. The key skills that I need to work on in order to progress would be to reduce and eliminate the fear of accounta bility; plan, learn and improve self-efficacy. Personal Accountability Self-Handicap What is the Situation Triggers Impact on Others What to Do Specific Behavioral Plan of Action Timeline Assessment Lack of what/how question asking I avoid asking my senior/ boss regarding work related issues and try to find solutions by myself. Avoidance and Fear Due to lack of knowledge and self confidence, I procrastinate and put stress on my teammates. Also I try to find the answers to what I dont know myself or consult a peer and the resultant of the approach sometime works in the favor of the team and at times effects the task timelines. (Improve Self confidence, look, listen and learn new knowledge and skill sets) Start believing in my abilities by shifting locus of control internally, to enhance knowledge base and become more approachable. 1. Be assertive, come out of my comfort zone, reach out to people for knowledge and advice. 2. Take a honest self assessment of specifics management traits to identify the management traits where am I lacking, verify and validate the findings through third parties consultations such family, friends, peers and trustworthy seniors. 3. Find mentors and learn from their experience and knowledge. 4. Engage myself in constructive and supportive managerial/ leadership activities to increase self efficacy. 5. Take steps to create positive environment to promote free flowing ideas and exchange knowledge on management related subject matter. 6. Break-down the difficult tasks into smaller meaning parts, and as I gain confidence in achieving those goals and increase self-efficacy, aim at mastery completing complex, challenging and autonomous jobs. Mar-2017 Feb-Mar 2017 Feb- Apr 2017 Mar- 2017 Mar-2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Analysis my progress with respect to this particular dimension by noting how many times I went up to my boss for a question/ suggestion/ idea and the severity of impact of that on the task or project. Compare the findings with past results. Do a 360-degree feedback to verify and validate the applied behavioral changes. Take advice, rectify the approach if necessary and reassess. Personal Accountability Self-Handicap What is the Situation Triggers Impact on Others What to Do Specific Behavioral Plan of Action Timeline Assessment Rather just hide or do my old job Due to lack of knowledge on work related subject matter and conservative nature, I often dont participate voluntary or optional work related assignment for professional growth, like seminar training and during a business presentation or conference, I usually sit at the corner or at the end to avoid interaction and answering to a question. Expedient avoidance Due to my conservative nature, I have become really restrictive, I hesitate to share ideas or constructive dialogues with the team and likewise. At times feel left out in a group meeting. (Improve self- efficacy and facenew challenges) Improve the public image and socialize, so that they recognize me and my ideas. Create a positive image for me amongst the people around to remember. 1. Practice empathy towards work, people, environment and most importantly towards self. 2. Set small meaningful personal and professional daily targets for me like reading an article or writing a blog about things that interest me and professional related. 3. Present paper at a conference or work related seminar to boost the confidence for public speaking. Thoroughly practice and prepare for the subject matter. 4. Be visible on social media, and connect to profession related group and people, to share thoughts and idea about a subject matter and recent development to mark my presence in the professional circle. 5. Seek mentorship, to verify and validate my ideas before presenting. Mar-2017 Feb-May 2017 Feb- Apr 2017 ongoing Mar-Apr-2017 Take feedback from external sources and compare the findings with initial documents to identify the area that I have improved on and what needs further rectification. Observe and note small behavioral changes made that have made been made and evaluate whether they have become a habit or not and permanent part of the routine. Set new goals or re-devise the implementation part to improve on them. Poor presentation of self and speech in presentation, social media Avoidance and Fear Holding Other Accountable Self-Handicap What is the Situation Triggers Impact on Others What to Do Specific Behavioral Plan of Action Timeline Assessment Not holding peers accountable There have been many instances in my managerial career that at the time of job performance evaluation, my subordinates often respond to accountability questions by they werent aware of the criteria, even though I had mentioned to them in the initial project stage. Self Deception Such situation put too much pressure on myself on behalf of the team to get the things done, and at times finds myself getting things done for my subordinates and peers just to meet the project timeline. Deliberate Action Design proactive approach on task accountability for the subordinates and peers. Discuss and communicate with them before finalizing, and document them. 1. Hold a daily morning meeting with the team to review performance and discuss what needs to be done and how, so that peers can suggest better advice to complete specific tasks, prioritize and assign workload with realistic timelines and set accountability goals. Include buffer in the schedule to accommodate unexpected events. 2. Make daily meeting note or place a white board for everybody to see, on which task timeline with an accountable person is mentioned, and is updated every morning after the meeting. 3. Publicly acknowledge peer and subordinate performance. 4. Set daily personal task and note them down based on the priorities. Feb-Apr 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 A good indicator of this change would be to evaluate peers and subordinates the task related approach and behavioral change in the daily morning. If I consider the things not improving, have a private talk with the person and try to understand his perspective. Instead of yearly performance review, have a monthly or quarterly review, to assess the performance, and correct them if required. Key behaviors and Baby steps: (derived from Self-Handicapping Leadership- the nine behaviors holding back employees, managers and companies and how to overcome them, by Phillip Decker and Jordan Mitchell) Most of the behavioral changes are focused on improving self-efficacy and regaining confidence to complete difficult tasks and face new challenges. Arrive at the next meeting/ class before time and prepare for it respectively. I heard an interesting technique for time management from a third person that Reaching a meeting 5 mins early is being on time and reaching on time means youre late., I will try to implement this philosophy. Be humble and honest in accepting my shortcomings. Enhance my understanding for the respective, seek assistance and push myself in questioning and analyzing regarding the unknown. Start writing a daily diary to self-analysis, what I have achieved and lost during the day, and mark positive events and their outcomes. Try to incorporate small positive behavioral change around my daily routine, like reading, writing and meditating. Resultant of these activities would be: I would feel confident when I walk into a meeting or class. The desire to learn and improve would push and drive me to accept my shortcomings and reach out people to overcome them. I would be better able to identify positive and negative behavior, devise a personal action plan for them. Incorporating small behavioral change around daily routine would soon become a habit and will have a positive impact. Tunnel Vision: Reading through the chapter and relating it to my previous professional and limited managerial experience, I consider tunnel vision as one key self-handicapping factor that executives and professional face as a hurdle in the growth and more importantly remain unaware about this shortcoming. We always ask our self why arent we getting a promotion and the other person is, even though I have more knowledge and experience, now I understand that the reason for it is tunnel vision. The top management looks at the person from various dimensions but the most critical and important one is they see whether the person takes into account the bigger picture and absolute goals when approaching smaller tasks, their understanding of what is happening beyond the boundaries of our particular job, department or organization. We need to avoid blindness in relation to information, internal and external environment, and understand the fine line between company vision and tunnel vision. During the process of identifying behavior and self-analyzing my work philosophy with the newly acquired knowledge and understanding of tunnel vision, honestly found out that I focus on whats in my inbox and isolate in my workplaces, working in my particular department, head down, and focusing on the specific job. I have little to no awareness of what may be going on outside of my little sphere. Often, restricting myself to useful information from the colleagues which could assist me in decision making. Reviewing and revisiting my 7-year career in textiles, I can well identify the decisions and approaches where I exercised tunnel vision. Switching jobs for small benefits and not taking into account the learning path early on in my career; which dented my resume and progress. Later on, in the managerial role due to my introvert nature, the team often got pressurize to meet the result and had to go though unnecessary efforts to meet the timeline. Digging into reasons, taking the self-assessment and analysis test, talking to friends, family and close acquaintances relating the findings to my previous limited professional experience; I found out the lack of self-confidence and self-efficacy in my abilities as one of the prime reason of self-handicapping and exercising tunnel vision. Due to the mentioned I never reached out to people and connected to them, exercised poor listening and writing skills which added to the misery and always procrastinated to make things even difficult for myself and people around me. During the action plan and baby steps, I would be primarily focused on improving my listening, writing and networking skills to open myself up to new idea and experiences which would help in the longer run. Implementing a behavioral change around my routine schedule, so that they slowly and latterly become permanent and a positive change. Tunnel Vision Self-Handicap What is the Situation Triggers Impact on Others What to Do Specific Behavioral Plan of Action Timeline Assessment Deal with procrastination I consider myself as not a good writer, and always try to avoid or take too much time doing it. I try to mask my shortcomings and indulge myself other non-related activities like social media to avoid the task at hand. Apprehension In a group project setting, due to my habits and I tend to put too much pressure on myself by procrastinating things, which is later transferred to other team members, resulted is there is a hassle to meet the project timeline and often we have compromise on the results. Face it I need to focus on building my self-confidence and writing abilities. I have to face my fear and take baby steps to convert my weakness into strength. Timely manage my work to effectively and efficiently get the required results. 1. Get out of my comfort zone and embrace myself for change. 2. Self assess and take professional help to identify areas where I need to improve, learn new skills and new perspectives. 3. Write a daily personal and professional to do list, in the order to priorities. 4. Identify and park/ block unproductive activities during work hours like face- book and whatsapp. 5. Find a method of meditation and exercise daily for 10-15 mins to self reflect on the changes happening, analysis them and gain positives out of them. 6. Set small meaningful personal and professional daily targets for myself to write a blog or personal article about things that interest me. Take feedback from close friends and family, also professional acquaintances like ex- boss about respective piece of writing, listen to the criticism positively and implement the changes gradually. Feb-2017 Feb-Mar 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Feb-Apr 2017 Take 360-degree feedback to check the progress and rectify the shortcomings. Self-evaluates the consistency in the mentioned behavioral change. Honestly, answer the important question Have they became a habit and are they having a positive impact?, if required make necessary changes. Tunnel Vision Self-Handicap What is the Situation Triggers Impact on Others What to Do Specific Behavioral Plan of Action Timeline Assessment Ignoring people after get your way At times, I find myself so much into things that I blind side myself by not hearing to what others have to say or suggest and what is happening around me. Self Deception Due to my introvert nature, I restrict myself to new ideas from my peers and subordinate, create a perception about them without knowing their story and thoughts; which really effects my ability to approach them during an assignment and after also. Resultant of this affects group cohesion and ability to achieve better and positive team efforts. Look and Listen One of the reasons that I self-analyzed during the initial assignments that I am not a good listener and have low self-esteem which greatly impacts my people interaction. So my prime objective would be to improve my verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to gain self-confidence. 1. Practice being patience during a conversation and discussion. 2. Divert my full focus and attention to the speaker and to what they are saying. Avoid distraction from the surrounding. 3. Clear my mind, try to visualize what the speaker is referring to and not jump to conclusions. 4. Respect the person speaking and their ideas. Contain the urge to ask unnecessary questions and learn the art of supportive questioning through taking support from mentors and reading articles based on it. Monitor my self-talk. 5. Learn to use and interpret non-verbal communication through reading and observing the people and surrounding. 6. Every day, greet people around me with a simple smile or hello; and if the conversation follows, go with the flow. Have an open and casual discussion with team members. 7. Join team members during lunch and tea time and have a casual non-work related conversation in order to understand the person and likewise. Seek advice and network with people not having same preference or profession, and share ideas and discuss on general issues this will give me more perspectives and new angles to approach an issue. Develop a regular questioning habit and a focus on finding the right questions to explore. Develop a habit to reassess my strength and weakness by taking into account external factors, if required take help from family, friends and close acquaintance. Resultant of these activities would be: Reading through profession related topic would really enhance my knowledge and by commenting on them on social media like Twitter and LinkedIn would improve the thinking process and articulating skills. The Crisis in American Education

The crisis in American education Every American is required to attend and complete public school education. A person needs to be literate and properly educated to progress in life. However, there are many things that can impact a person’s education and personal life. These issues include illiteracy, drug abuse and violence at school. These issues combined with others create the crisis of American education. Getting an education today is very important because jobs are demanding in their criteria for job applicants. It is vital to survival that everyone knows and understands the English language. We have all gone to public school at one point or another, so we have all seen the dangers lurking about in our public schools. School violence is an issue that plagues each and every high school in the world. Teens are sometimes so afraid that they will skip school. Drug abuse is also getting to be a terrible problem in public schools as it affects the education of the student. As we h ave seen through Columbine and the Virginia tech massacre, there are some issues surrounding safety of schools and their children. There is a question of â€Å"who’s next? It’s very important that we recognize the warning signs in our students early on so that we can stop the violence before it ever happens. There are many solutions to the issues that affect our public schools ranging from gathering volunteers to just loving your child. In this essay, we will examine three main issues in public schools along with the causes, effects and solutions of each issue. There is a multitude of problems facing the public schools today including teen violence, drug abuse, and illiteracy and we need to find the tools necessary to rebuild a more positive learning environment.Illiteracy is the inability to use language, read, write, listen and speak. Illiteracy is one of the main problems facing our public schools today. It has only been getting worse over the years. In the colonia l days, parents were responsible for teaching their kids how to read. If they failed to teach them, they were fined by the state. Boy, have times changed. The three main causes of illiteracy are poverty, learning disabilities, and lack of family literacy. These problems have contributed to the whopping 32 million Americans who are illiterate today.Children in every public school are affected by illiteracy, sometimes because of a learning disability, like dyslexia. Between 1992 and 2003, there were 23 million people added to the population. 3. 6 million of those people were illiterate (enotalon. com). People have been illiterate for as long as the earth has been around. An incredible 75% of unemployed adults cannot read and write at a basic level. There was an organization formed called ProLiteracy. It is a group that teaches adults to read and write. It also distributes materials used to help teach the adults reading and writing. Illiteracy costs about $60 billion in lost productivit y due to illiteracy. The U. S . has not made any progress in changing the illiteracy rates. Illiteracy affects every aspect of a person’s life. They may be ashamed or feel inadequate in life due to their literacy problem. There are solutions to the literacy problem in America. A first solution can be training our teachers better so they can better teach our children. A second solution can be to offer after school help for children.A third solution would be to change the environment at home. In 1985, Six Flags Marine World designed â€Å"read to succeed†. Read to succeed is a three unit program for third through eighth graders. It has grown to 209,000 students from 166,000 students in the year 1989. Read to succeed is designed to introduce youngsters to a lifetime of fun through reading independently. The program presents kids with interesting and fun topics. Each and every one of these solutions will be a definite help in solving the literacy problem. They will work tog ether to create a working educational system comprised of adults and children. Children will no longer suffer from shame of being illiterate. Adults can gain the tools they need to survive in the real world. Illiteracy is an international problem that affects the student, family, community and the economy. With these solutions, we can learn to successfully combat the war against illiteracy. Bullying and school violence is a very scary, but real part of our everyday lives. Bullying is when kids use their power to control or harm others intentionally.Bullying includes making threats, name-calling, spreading rumors, or attacking someone verbally or physically. 1 in 4 kids are bullied every year. It has been proven that bullying affects a child’s ability to learn because they become so preoccupied with escaping a bully or feeling depressed about an incident that they cannot focus on their schoolwork. There are many causes to bullying, most dealing with outside influences. A first cause of bullying could be a history of family violence. Another cause could be learned racial, social, or religious prejudice.Another factor could be the violence portrayed in the media. Substance abuse is another cause of bullying. Bullying has many causes and many effects, so what can we do about it? We can assess bullying by participating in surveys that help determine the frequency and locations of bullying. First, you choose the survey you want, then, you obtain consent to take the survey. After you gain consent, you will administer the survey. When it is done, you will analyze and distribute your findings. You should always have a clear plan ready.Surveys can also gauge the effectiveness of a current prevention or intervention effort. Surveys also ask the schools and their communities about their experience and thoughts on bullying. This is a great way to understand the underlying causes and effects of bullying and who its victims are. Engaging the youth and parents can make a student feel safer, focus more on learning, and have the parent worrying less. Ways that a student can help is to contribute their experiences or views on bullying. They can promote respect and communicate regularly with their peers about the dangers of bullying.Parents can contribute by volunteering at school improvement events. School staff can keep parents informed about bullying and set up meetings convenient for the parent and child. School safety committees are groups of people focused on the concerns of school safety; where teachers can give their insights and administrators can answer questions. School safety committees plan prevention programs, develop communicate, and enforce bullying prevention policies and rules. They educate the public on bullying and evaluate bullying prevention efforts. It is very important that we build a comfortable environment for our students everywhere. We need to establish a culture of positivity and safety. We need to promote respect in every classroom. To make sure that our bullying prevention efforts are working, our school staff needs to be trained on what bullying is, what the school’s policies are, and how to enforce the rules. Training is most successful when a teacher feels their voice has been heard. I think that everyone would feel successful if they felt their voice was heard.

Network Consultant Scenarios Essay

Complete Case Projects 3-1, 3-2, & 3-3 of Guide to Networking Essentials. After determining if a client-based or client/server model will be used, substantively justify your choice in 200 to 300 words. Case Project 3-1 The changes in equipment that are required to bring this company’s network up to date to solve the shared bandwidth problem is replacing the hubs with fast ethernet switches and a router. You could make subnets for each department of the company, creating different collision domains which would eliminate dropped packets. The throughput would be increased based upon the upgraded switch/router. Also Setup a file server to store the large files. I would the issue of this problem by using a mesh topology and run over 300Ft of Cat 5 cable to a single point. You could also run the cable through metal conduits along walls or on the floor or you could always implement a wireless system to solve the ceiling issue. Case Project 3-2 The topology that should be used in this network is an extended star topology because it is a bit more advanced than the regular star topology. Instead of connecting all devices to a central unit, sub-central devices are added in. This allows more functionality for organization. The Extended Star Topology is all but necessary to prevent degraded signals and it is also better for bigger networks. Also the network would be server based because connection will be coming from one central point for all computers allowing for information to be shared between users. There will be as many computers needed for each user of the company, E.biz had 250 computers and five servers so I would probably stick with the 250 computers. The easiest device to reconfigure in an extended star topology would be computers because they would be the last to be connected in the topology. The device that offers the best access to the network medium’s bandwidth would be the hubs connected to the central poi nt because it will be the middle man between the  computer and central point device. Case Project 3-3 This network will be server based because since employees need to access company information and it can be confidential the security level on using a server based network will help control the access of files. There would need to be at least 45 computers connected to the network for the 25 users in the front of the factory and 20 for the workstations on each factory floor. The topology to be used in this case would be physical star topology because all connections will come from one central point, since there are many areas of the factory that will need connection having a central point for connection makes more sense.

Analysis Of Metasploit Runs On Unix ( Os X ) And On...

Metaspoilt Framework is not just an application but a framework which allows the user to customize his tool based on his requirement. It can be used to develop the tools, test the system and exploit the vulnerabilities. Metasploit runs on Unix (including Linux and Mac OS X) and on Windows, and the Metasploit Framework has been translated in verbose to dozens of languages. Outcomes: †¢ Simulate real-world attacks against your defenses. †¢ Uncover weak and reused credentials. †¢ Pinpoint weak links in the attack chain. †¢ Closed-loop integration with Nexpose for remediation. †¢ Run penetration projects at scale. †¢ Reduce user risk using phishing campaigns, simulation risk. Usage: 1. On getting started, the exploit to be targeted should be selected and configured which is the code that targets the system with the intention of taking advantage of system. Once found, it can be validated if it is susceptible. 2. Configure a payload that will be used. This payload represents the code that will be run on a system after a loop-hole has been found in the system and an entry point is set. 3. To evade the intrusion detection system easily, the encoding schema should be selected and configured. 4. Now, the exploit can be executed. This framework mainly has three types of environment namely msfconsole, msfweb interface, msfcli interface out of which msfconsole comes handy due to an efficient command line interface. It can also be widely used by integrating it with the Nexpose tool, usedShow MoreRelatedVulnerability Assessment ( Va )3159 Words   |  13 Pagestransfers of the 1990s have been replaced by traded zombie proxies of today, made through the mass exploitation of regular vulnerabilities. An inquiry regularly asked is, â€Å"Why would somebody focus on my system? The answer is that most exploited frameworks were not focused on; they were just one more address in a system range being checked by an attacker. They were focuses of chance, not decision. Spammers couldn t care less whether a system has a place with a universal bank or your grandmother;
